Nordic countries have been at the vanguard of innovation in digital, mobile, and instant payments for decades. Nordic governments have supported banks in collaborating over debit cards, bank IDs, and payments infrastructure for the past 40 years. This has paved the way for early digital transformation, allowing banks to drive innovation and in turn, cultivate trust among their customers. This combination of collaboration and trust has created a strong foundation for today’s financial services industry.
The timing of this event could not be better placed. P27, created in 2018 with the ambition of establishing a single pan-Nordic payment infrastructure for the region’s 27 million citizens, is now forging ahead. Currently incorporating real-time, batch, domestic, and cross-border payments on a single platform, critical P27 infrastructure is transforming the value chain in Sweden. NextGen Nordics, held in Stockholm, will explore Swedish success, Denmark’s recent buy-in and what this progress means for scaling innovation across wholesale and retail banking in the Nordic region.
